Born on August 29th, 1939, Alex Varenne is the illustrator and the author of more than 30 albums of erotic comics.

By the late ’60s, Alex Varenne taught drawing and did some painting exhibitions in Paris and Lyon.

In 1979, he created with his brother Daniel the series Ardeur, published in the magazine Charlie Mensuel. Six volumes released between 1980 and 1987. Varenne shows its great talent and its art of black and white drawing. Meanwhile, Alex Varenne published for several years in L’écho des savanes.

At the same time, he devoted himself much to the eroticism with Carré noir sur dames blanches (1984), portfolios Erotic Opera (1986), the three volumes of the series Erma Jaguar (1988-1992), Corps à corps (1987), les Larmes du sexe (1989), Amours fous (1991), Fragments érotiques (1993), or Le goût des femmes (2002). Most are published by Albin Michel.

He publishes at Casterman Editions graphic novels, more ambitious but still sensual with Angoisse et Colère (1988)   and Gully Traver (1993).

In 1996, Attention Femmes adds to the short stories that Varenne drew for the series Fripons, those he regularly delivers to Playboy or Penthouse Comics. He will also illustrate the sulfurous texts of La Correction.

In 2002 he illustrated Les 12 Signes de l’amour by Brigitte Lahaie at Geisha Editions, where he published Juliette et autres contes fripons (1999) and Yumi (2000).

In 2007, he published his selection of interviews, Itinéraire d’un libertin.

In recent years, Alex Varenne presents exhibitions across Europe, while many publishing houses are now honored to reissue the treasures of a master of eroticism and fetishism in black and white.
